HouseSmart.ca

Home innovation, engineered from the field.

The problem

Building innovation arrives as news: a product launch, a trend piece, a case study. None of it is in a form you can build from. The gap between "someone did this" and "here is how it is done, and whether it applies to my climate" is where every good idea dies.

HouseSmart reads live building feeds, pulls out the real jobs to be done, and maps each one from point A to point B — tools, steps, conditions and outcomes. Every job is then run through a 216-alternative matrix to surface angles nobody has tried.

What it does

Built to do three things well

01

Jobs to be done, not articles

Each innovation is written as the job — "keep a drafty old home warm without the electric bill shock" — with the tools, steps and conditions attached.

02

A 216-alternative matrix

Every job is run across the matrix to generate combinations nobody has tried, rather than restating the one approach that made the news.

03

Digested daily from live feeds

The pipeline runs continuously against building feeds, so the ideas are current rather than an archive.

Walkthrough

How it works, screen by screen

A guided pass through the product — each step is one real screen and what it is doing for the person using it.

Step 01

One innovation, fully specified

A modular garden home approved before a deadline: the job stated in the user's own words, then the route from A to B.

Step 02

Field notes, not a trend piece

Turning a sterile office into something people want to come to — fabric skylights, cork walls, residential finishes, with the reasoning kept in.

Step 03

From raw feeds to buildable ideas

The about page shows the whole pipeline, which is the part that makes the feed trustworthy rather than mysterious.
