Astrology & Love: How Your Zodiac Sign Shapes Relationships and Self-Discovery

As Kay put it during the reading: "You gotta appreciate your own code before you can make somebody else appreciate your code."
Astrology & Love: How Your Zodiac Sign Shapes Relationships and Self-Discovery
On this episode of Peasants Sex and Relationships, host Twyla Rae welcomed back astrologer Kay — known online as Queen KMJ of Astro Pluto Queen — for a return visit after what Twyla called a “lit” debut episode focused on sex. This time, the conversation turned toward dating, compatibility, and the birth chart as a tool for understanding not just other people, but yourself.
Twyla opened by noting that the show’s producer, Ryan Perez, had reportedly walked away from Kay’s first appearance “a touch skeptical” about astrology — and left this episode a believer. Ryan shared that after hearing Kay describe him as someone who “likes to meet people in the mind,” he made real changes to how he was dating: he ended one relationship because, as he put it, he wasn’t “attracted to her mentally nor physically,” and he cut off contact with a couple of women whose approach to him didn’t sit right, including one situation where he felt he was being compared unfavorably to other men in her life. He credited the astrology conversation with helping him understand “who my internal person is.”
Kay used the reunion to walk through some of astrology’s building blocks. She explained that Mars and Pluto govern sex and the “bedroom” side of the chart, while Venus governs partnerships and relationships more broadly — what you’re attracted to relationally versus what you desire sexually. A viewer identified only as “Facebook user” — a Sagittarius sun, Capricorn moon, Pisces rising — jumped in to ask, half-joking, why Scorpios seem to come for him so hard. Kay broke down the houses involved, explaining that Scorpio can land in a person’s chart as a “twelfth house” placement that surfaces parts of themselves they’re not comfortable with, and riffed on Scorpio’s reputation for bluntness, intensity, and holding grudges (she is a Scorpio rising herself and took the ribbing in stride).
A good chunk of the episode centered on Chiron, the so-called “wounded healer” of the birth chart. Kay explained the Greek mythology behind it — Chiron was wounded but became a healer of others — and described how a person’s Chiron placement points to their emotional soft spots. She noted her own Chiron sits on her Venus, meaning she has experienced real wounds in relationships but has turned that into her gift for relationship coaching. She also touched on how shared or clashing Chiron placements between partners can either become a source of healing or a pattern of “trauma bonding.”
The heart of the episode was two live readings. First, Kay walked through Twyla’s chart — noting a Scorpio stellium, a Capricorn rising, and a Saturn placement in Libra that Kay said means Twyla’s biggest life lessons will come through relationships. She encouraged Twyla to let down the emotional “walls” in her chart and offered the line of the night: “You gotta appreciate your own code before you can make somebody else appreciate your code.”
Then it was Ryan’s turn. Kay described his Venus-Mars-Moon concentration in Libra as making him relationship-oriented and emotionally attuned, and connected his moon placement to the women in his family — noting they “never dressed for other women” or “for other men,” but for themselves — which Ryan confirmed matched his mother, grandmother, and sisters. Kay suggested Ryan needs a partner with real spiritual or philosophical depth, and flagged his Saturn in Scorpio as meaning his biggest relationship lessons run through sexual attraction and magnetism — offering the blunt rule, “do not date people you are not sexually attracted to.” She suggested Gemini, Cancer, and Scorpio energy as good matches for him, and steered him away from Pisces.
The episode closed with Kay explaining Mercury retrograde’s “shadow period” — the stretch after the planet turns direct where technology, communication, and travel can still feel glitchy — which she tied directly to the tech hiccups both she and Twyla experienced during the recording itself.
Throughout, Kay returned to one core idea: astrology, in her framing, isn’t a shortcut to finding the right person — it’s a tool for understanding yourself well enough to recognize compatibility, and incompatibility, when you see it.
Lessons from this one
Self-knowledge is positioned as a prerequisite for healthy relationships, not something to be outsourced to a partner.
Kay repeatedly urged listeners to 'know thyself' first, saying people make the mistake of relying on relationships to teach them about themselves, and that you need to 'be in a classroom by yourself first before you try to connect with other classes, AKA people.'
Framing personal wounds as a source of purpose or expertise (the 'wounded healer' idea) can be a powerful narrative for processing past pain.
Kay explained Chiron as the 'wounded healer' placement in a birth chart, and described how her own Chiron-on-Venus placement — representing relationship wounds — became the foundation of her work coaching others through relationships.
Chronic over-accommodation in relationships is framed as a pattern worth actively resisting, not a virtue.
Kay told Twyla directly, 'do not set yourself on fire to keep anybody warm,' warning against putting one's own needs and boundaries on the back burner for the sake of a relationship.
Ending or avoiding relationships that lack a specific compatibility factor (in this case, physical/sexual attraction or feeling mentally 'met') is presented as a legitimate standard rather than pickiness.
Ryan described ending a relationship because he wasn't attracted to a partner 'mentally nor physically,' and Kay separately advised, 'do not date people you are not sexually attracted to,' framing attraction as a real compatibility signal rather than something to override.
People often describe being drawn to partners who echo qualities of their early family relationships (e.g., how a parent carried themselves or expressed love).
Kay told Ryan that the moon in a man's chart reflects what he expects of women, and linked his attraction to women who 'dress for themselves' and carry themselves with class directly to the women in his own family, which Ryan confirmed.
